An already exciting day turned even more amazing for Andrea Diaz when she received her cochlear implant.
Diaz, who is deaf, had the device surgically implanted. It replaces the function of the inner ear by picking up and processing sounds and then delivering them directly to the brain.
When her device was turned on she was overcome by the emotion of the moment, finally able to hear what was going on around her – and her own voice – for the first time.
Little did she know things were about to get even better.
After giving her a few minutes to process everything, her boyfriend, Kevin Peakman, got down on one knee and said, “I wanted to make one of the first things that you hear… Because I love you so much and you’re my best friend, baby. I wanted to make the first thing you hear me asking you to marry me.”
With tears in her eyes, Diaz happily told him “yes.” The perfect ending to an already incredible moment!
