When 17-year-old Danielle Lopez found a ragged-looking stray kitten near her Florida home, she knew she had to take her in and try to nurse her back to health.

“If we didn’t take her home she would have died,” Danielle said. “She was all bones.”

The cat, which she named Tink, quickly became a part of the family, but she didn’t realize how much a part until Tuesday when she heard a strange noise coming from beneath her Christmas tree.

“I heard a soft meow and thought it was our other kitty [Sagwa],” Danielle said. But when she looked a little closer she couldn’t believe her eyes. Tink had just given birth to a tiny kitten right underneath the Christmas tree!

“I was in shock,” Danielle said. “I started running around the house to lock up [Sagwa] and grab towels to help her.”

With Danielle’s help Tink gave birth to four more kittens. One was stillborn, but Danielle named the others Joy, Faith, Noel, and Christmas in honor of the season and the special place Tink chose to give birth.

It turns out the father of the kittens was Sagwa. While it was a big surprise, the family was “so happy” to see the sweet little kittens and they have decided to keep all of them.

What a special Christmas surprise!

As joyous as this occasion was, though, we want to remind our readers that it’s always a good idea to spay and neuter your pets if you aren’t planning on breeding them as some families may not be prepared to take care of several new additions!
