Jrue and Lauren Holiday met when they were in college and their lives seemed to be a dream. Lauren was a soccer star on the U.S. women’s team and basketball star Jrue was drafted to the 76ers, later moving on to play for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Soon after the USA beat Japan in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Lauren found out she was pregnant. It seemed like life couldn’t get any better.

But then the couple was met with devastating news – Lauren was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Immediately, Jrue told the NBA that he would need time off to take care of his wife.

While many questioned his decision, Jrue was firm in his decision. “My family comes before basketball,” he said.

The Holidays’ baby is due in October and Lauren will undergo surgery six weeks after their little girl is born.

We pray for health and safety for both Lauren and the baby and applaud the way Jrue stepped up and sacrificed his own career to be the husband and father that his family needs.
