One man couldn’t stand watching a senior dog mistreated and abused, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

The poor dog was left outside on hard concrete at all times on a short chain and his owners had muzzled his mouth with duct tape.

When the dog’s neighbor heard him screaming one day, he decided he had had enough and called the cops to come help.

Unfortunately, the dog wasn’t abused “enough” for the cops to do anything about it. All they could do was admonish the owners to take better care of their dog.

After continuing to watch the sad dog chained and muzzled and lying in his own feces, the neighbor decided he couldn’t take it anymore.

One day he jumped the fence separating his yard from his neighbors’ and stole away the dog, whose name is Alfie.

While this was potentially very dangerous and legally questionable, he decided it was worth the risk to give Alfie a better life.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, no charges were ever brought against the man for taking Alfie.

The man cleaned Alfie up and gave him a comfortable place to sleep and some socks to chew on.

While he wasn’t able to keep Alfie due to the constraints of his job, the man took the grateful dog to a special rehabilitation center for senior dogs. He was assured that Alfie would either be placed with a loving family or live out his days in the comfort of the special shelter.

Lucky for Alfie he did find his forever home. He will get to live out the rest of his days being loved and cared for and playing with other senior dogs like him.

His early life was truly horrific, but we’re glad Alfie’s story has a happy ending!
