It’s an age-old debate, at least among those who frequent diners: Which ketchup brand is best – Hunt’s or Heinz?

In a taste test conducted by Kitchn, the two were in a close race for first place, but Heinz eventually won out. No wonder it’s America’s favorite ketchup brand!

But while we definitely love our ketchup, there is always one issue that lovers of this condiment run into: getting it out of the bottle fast enough to feed our cravings!

This is especially true of the glass bottles. I’ve resorted to pounding the bottle with my fist and using knives – and sometimes even my fingers – to get the sweet and spicy condiment on my plate.

But then I learned a little secret that changed my life forever! Heinz claims that only 11% of people know this trick, and we think that’s a real shame, so we’re sharing it with the world so no one has to labor in frustration over their ketchup bottles again!

If you look above the label on a glass bottle of Heinz ketchup, you will see the number “57” on the glass. The 57 refers to the “57 Varieties” slogan used in early Heinz advertising (though the company now has more than 5,700 products around the globe), but it is so much more than just a harkening back to the company’s roots.

It turns out that 57 was placed in a very strategic location on the bottle. If you turn the bottle downward in about a 45 degree angle and “karate chop” right on the number, the ketchup will release faster from the bottle!

I don’t know how I went so long without ever knowing this trick, but now that I know it my life has been greatly improved! No more anguished pounding to release that sweet nectar!

Now excuse me – I’ve got a burger and fries that need some attention!
