As a young couple very much in love, Sherry Blackledge and her now-husband would talk about their plans for the future. They wanted to have children – a little boy and a little girl – and they were going to name their daughter Brooke.
However, after they were married the couple found out they couldn’t have children. They ended up adopting a boy, Brian, and then, 11 years later, they adopted 18-month-old Brooke.
As Sherry watched Brooke sleep one night, soon after she came to live with them, she decided to write her new baby girl a letter.
She ended up having that letter printed on a piece of her wedding dress and decided to keep it a secret until Brooke herself got married.
Twenty years later that special day finally arrived and Sherry handed Brooke the note she had written so long ago.
Our Dear Little Baby Brooke,
As I write this you are sleeping soundly in your baby bed. You are 18 months old. We just want you to know how very much love and happiness you have brought to us. You have made us a truly great family. A little precious baby girl to me and Daddy and a baby sister to Brian.
Before me and Daddy were married we always said we wanted a little boy and a little girl. When we were dating, we said if we had a little girl she would be a little Brooke. You are our little Baby Brooke.
Brooke, we just want you to know that you are very special to us and that God picked you extra special and he sent you to Mommy, Daddy and Brian.
We love you. Mommy and Daddy.
The moment was emotional for everyone in the room, especially the mother and daughter.
“You’re special, and God sent you to us for us to love you,” Sherry told Brooke.
“It’s perfect,” Brooke replied.
