Birthdays are always special occasions. But, imagine celebrating over 100 birthdays?

For centenarians like Ruth Hillard, every year she can celebrate her birthday is truly a blessing.

On June 5, Ms. Hillard, a North Carolina resident, turned 106 years old.

While many people ask Ms. Hillard about her diet and other habits, in search of her secret.

She says that her secret to a long life is very simple.

She grew up during a time where technology wasn’t in control of everyone’s lives and things that we now take for granted, such as Band-Aids and ballpoint pens were brand new inventions.

A former teacher, who taught in both schools and church, Ms. Hillard’s been retired for quite some time from the classroom according to ABC 11.

However, she still offers an important lesson we can all learn from.

Keep faith in God.

The centenarian credits her long life to her faith in the Almighty.

She also says that she was given the gift of 106 years of life to better understand the importance of her favorite scripture, Psalms 91:15-16.

“He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
