Too often, I’m reading stories of children accidentally drowning in pools. Celebrated Olympian, Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan lost their 19-month-old daughter, Emeline when she drowned in a neighbor’s pool during a party over the weekend according to TMZ.

An Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) spokesperson said that Morgan Beck Miller, Bode’s wife and a professional beach volleyball player, was with her daughter at a neighbor’s house around 6:30 p.m. PT on Saturday night when the 19-month-old “got out of sight for a short time.” She found Emmy in a pool, immediately pulled her out, called 911, and initiated CPR.

First responders arrived and rushed her to the hospital where she later died. Her father is the most decorated ski Olympian, winning one gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Miller and his wife have three other children.

The grieving family posted this devastating message on social media. “We are beyond devastated. Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday.

“Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to it’s fullest  everyday.”

The US Olympic team sent its condolences in a tweet on Monday. “terribly sad news in the Olympic Movement today. #TeamUSA sends sincere condolences to @MillerBode and his family, along with wishes of strength and comfort,” the tweet read.

Our hearts go out to the Millers during this difficult time.
