It’s a parent’s worst nightmare – seeing your child gravely sick or injured and not being able to do anything about it.
When one-year-old Marwa’s tiny body was ravaged by a virus, doctors put her in a medically-induced coma to protect her brain.
But when her brain seemed to not be responding to the coma, doctors told Marwa’s parents that their daughter had suffered neurological problems and, if she survived, she would struggle to walk and eat and would never be able to breathe independently.
They advised taking the little girl off of life support.
Marwa’s parents, though, were not ready to give up on their little girl. When the doctors wouldn’t listen to them they took the issue to court and received a two-month extension for the life support.
Those two months were drawing to a close and doctors were getting ready to turn off the life support when something unexplainable happened – Marwa opened her eyes!
Not only that, but Marwa’s mother has since said that all of the girl’s organs are working exactly like they should!
Doctors are still confounded by Marwa’s miraculous progress, and her parents are relieved and overjoyed that they fought for their daughter’ life.
“Her treatment continues, but we see progress every day and that gives us a lot of hope,” Marwa’s father said. “When I speak to her, she hears my voice, she reacts, sometimes even smiles.”
