With all the violence against police recently, most of us wouldn’t blame officers for feeling some fear when they go to work. What some of us might forget, though, is the fear and worry that the officers’ loved ones must feel every day as they watch their parents, children, spouses, and siblings go off to work.

After the recent shooting in Baton Rouge, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department posted this picture of one officer’s children kneeling next to his patrol car, praying for his safety. The image has touched thousands around the country, poignantly reminding us that police are human too.
