Sometimes it’s easy to forget how incredible animals truly are. Many of them are incredibly smart and creative, and they experience a range of emotions very similar to humans.

Never was that more evident than when a group of scientists put a robotic baby monkey into the midst of a troop of langurs.

The robot moved its mouth and eyes similarly to a real monkey and had a camera built in so the scientists could observe the monkeys’ behavior. What they found left them stunned.

It’s better to watch it than to try to explain it. Click below to see their extraordinary behavior for yourself:

The grief these monkeys display when they think the baby is dead is palpable, and we begin to experience our own emotions of sadness, even though we know the baby isn’t real.

It is incredible to see the ways these monkeys mourn and comfort each other. Just one more beautiful reminder of how connected we all are.

Were you touched by the way these monkeys reacted when they thought their baby was dead? So share this!
