Usually when I see a young kid walk on stage to sing a song I expect something cute, something sweet, something “precious.” What I don’t expect is the power that came from this young girl’s mouth. But I guess it makes sense – this is Maria Cristina Craciun, the 11-year-old granddaughter of famed tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

This video was actually taken in 2011, four years after Pavarotti passed away. For her performance the young singer chose to do the song “Caruso,” one made famous by her grandfather.

When she opens her mouth to sing it is difficult to believe that we are actually hearing her voice. Not only does her voice carry an incredible amount of power and beauty, but the emotion that she is able to put behind her performance speaks to a maturity far beyond her 11 years.

This performance truly is a special one. Click below to hear Craciun’s powerful rendition for yourself.
