A lot of times when we think about love we think about young love, the new and exciting romance that still gives you butterflies and sweeps you off your feet. And while that kind of love is wonderful, one of the greatest expressions of love that I see is the love that lasts.
Couples who have been together for most of their lives have seen many joys but have also weathered many storms together hand-in-hand. When a couple nears the end of their lives their love is solid and strong, well-rooted, and it is a beautiful thing to see.
That is the kind of love this couple has. Their granddaughter, who goes by RealLiveGirl on Reddit, posted this picture of her grandparents just hours before her grandmother passed away.
“My Grandma, 96, with my Grandpa, 100, hours before her death this weekend. 77 years of marriage,” she wrote.
As they lay there, knowing they didn’t have much time left together, her grandfather refused to let go of his bride’s hand. The care and the love that he still has for her after all their years together is so evident in the way he looks at her face.
The sweet photo has been going viral since it was posted. For some it reminds them of their own loved ones, and for others it is a glimpse at the kind of love they hope to one day have. Either way, it is beautiful.
