Ed and Fran Gargiula are a match made in heaven.

The grandparents – married for 52 years – have sported coordinating outfits every day for the past two decades. And they don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

“It started out because we took country dancing and all of the couples coordinated,” Ed, 76, tells PEOPLE. “And then it just became a habit!”

“Matching just works for us, now it would bother us if we didn’t match!” adds Fran, 74.

Their 17-year-old grandson, Anthony Gargiula, decided to document their matching style in a series of Twitter photos that have since garnered over 83,000 likes.

“People say, ‘Oh, what are they going to wear tomorrow!’ We have fans!” Ed says with a laugh. “If we didn’t match people would say ‘Oh my God!’”

The couple, both retired Long Island elementary schoolteachers, met at a teachers’ conference during their 20s – and have been inseparable ever since.

“We do everything together, because we enjoy it,” says Ed.

“The clothing thing, that’s for everyone to say ‘Oh, that’s cute!’ but we match deep down too,” says Ed.

Ed and Fran square dance five times a week in their retirement community in The Villages, Florida.

“One of my favorite things about him is his ability to reach out to me when he knows I’m upset about something,” says Fran. “He can read me very well.”
