You can always count on P&G to deliver a commercial that hits you right in the feels, and this one is no exception. In anticipation of Mother’s Day and the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio, the consumer goods giant has released a commercial that reminds us of how strong our mothers truly are.
The commercial follows the stories of several different athletes and their mothers. The first shows a mom helping her daughter – a future Olympic gymnast – seek shelter from a terrifying tornado. Another shows a strong mother standing up to bullies who are terrorizing her son, a future world-class runner.
Throughout the commercial, scenes from the athletes’ childhoods are juxtaposed with scenes from their events at the Olympics. Just like when they were children, when these n0w-grown up athletes make their way to the Games their mothers are there for them, lending their support, cheering them on, and encouraging them when things get tough.
As most of us are well-aware, it’s not just Olympic moms who exhibit this kind of strength. Our own moms have been there for us through thick and thin, protecting us, comforting us, standing up for us, and pushing us to be our best selves.
The commercial’s tagline rings true: It takes someone strong to make someone strong. Thank you, moms, for lending us your strength so that we can be strong too.
