Luther Younger, a 98-year-old Korean War veteran has proven neither distance nor hardship will get in the way of true love. He’s walked 6 miles each day for two weeks to visit his wife who’s in the hospital.

“I ain’t nothing without my wife,”  Luther told Spectrum News. “It’s been a rough pull. It’s been tough.”

Luther’s wife, Waverlee, was diagnosed with brain cancer back in 2009. She’s currently at Strong Memorial Hospital near Rochester, New York. Cancer has left her paralyzed.

The gentleman’s family told the news outlet Luther walks everywhere. On Tuesday, bystander  Dan Bookhard spotted him walking along the side of the road.

“My upbringing; when you see somebody elderly when you see somebody struggling when it’s raining…  I had to pick him up, and I couldn’t be one of the ones who would just drive by,” Bookhard told the news outlet.

Luther’s daughter, Lutheta Younger told Yahoo Lifestyle she had her parents move in with her so she and her sister, Joyce could care for them. She said her father doesn’t have to walk to see his wife of 50 years. He chooses to.

“I can drive him. He just doesn’t want to wait; he’s impatient.”

Thanks to the generous donations of strangers and loved ones, a GoFundMe page has collected over $29,000. The money raised will help with medical expenses and rides to and from the hospital.

Luther told Spectrum News that Waverlee is “the best cup of tea I ever had. She would come in and kiss me and say baby and feed me in the bed and this is what I need right here.”

What a sweet, touching story. Luther’s such a kind, caring husband. We wish them both the very best.
