Many people have gone to great measures to comfort family and friends who are going through trials. I’ve even read about whole families shaving their heads in support of a family member battling cancer.

It’s not quite the same as shaving their heads, but the Gutierrez family found a unique and precious way to support their little son/brother who has to wear a head shaping helmet.

Doctors told four-month-old Jonas Gutierrez’s parents that he would need to wear a helmet to help reshape the back of his head, which was severely flat from sleeping on his back all of the time. He had to be fitted for a head shaping helmet that he will have to wear for approximately 3 to 6 months. The helmet will, in time, correct the shape of Jonas’ head.

When Jonas’ parents, Gary and Shayna, got up on Saturday morning, they saw something that melted their hearts. Jonas’ sister, 3-year-old Camila, had put on her pink bike helmet and worn it to breakfast to show solidarity with her brother. It didn’t take long for Gary to join in, putting on his own red bike helmet.

Shea Serrano, Gary’s cousin, shared a photo of the family having breakfast together with their helmets on. Many people were touched by the photo, and it didn’t take long for it to go viral.

This is such a kind example of how one family chose to cope with a real-life issue in a creatively positive and beautiful way.

Gary is proud of the kindness and compassion Camila is already showing her young brother. “She’s all about inclusion,” he said. “She wants her brother to be happy. She doesn’t want him to feel different.”

We can all learn something from little Camila’s sweet heart!

Were you touched when you saw what this family did to support little Jonas? So share this!
