When 13-year-old Laura Bretan got to “America’s Got Talent,” she was nervous. Besides what she had already seen on TV, backstage she heard the judges, especially the infamously harsh Simon Cowell, crush many performers’ dreams. She knew that they would tell her the truth about her performance, and the truth can hurt.

The young singer was visibly tense as she took the stage and her voice was a little airy and shaky. The judges weren’t sure what to expect when she started to sing, but one thing’s for sure: what happened next was the absolute last thing they could have imagined.

The young teen opened her mouth and the voice of a professionally trained opera singer came out.

The judges could not believe what they were hearing. “She’s 13?” Cowell asked in amazement.

Once Laura finished her performance – to a standing ovation – the judges could not give her enough praise.

“I have never heard anything like that in all the years I’ve been doing this show,” said Cowell. “Seriously. It was unbelievable. What made it even better is the fact that you are such a sweet person. So humble. Not even aware of how amazing you are.”

Judge Mel B had something even more incredible up her sleeve.

“This show is going to completely change your life, and I’m going to change your life right now,” she said before pressing the golden buzzer that would send Laura straight to the live semi-finals.

The incredibly talented singer could barely contain her excitement as she tried to grasp what had just happened. “This has been a dream come true,” she said.
